My b/f's father died in a car accident when my b/f was 17. My b/f feels that it's his fault because he was suppose to be with his dad that night. Is there anything I can say or do to help him through the guilt or to realize that it isn't his fault.

Unless his father was impaired and your boyfriend should have been driving instead, how is he to blame for your father's death?

I think you should tell your BF you care for him, that you're worried about him, and maybe he should talk to a professional to help him process his feelings about his father's death. Sometimes a nonrelated party sees things that you might not be able to.

Feeling guilty after a death can be very tricky to overcome. Essentially, this is something that he needs to find the strength inside of himself to do so.You could help by saying, it wasn't your fault. His death would have been your fault if you were driving and purposly drove off the road. It was an accident, a tragic accident, but still something no one could have predicted. He didn't die because your boyfriend wasn't with him, he died because he was injured in a car accident.

Other than that, he will have find some way to cope and to sort through these feelings on his own. And you an just let him know that you're there for him.
