I was prescribed it this weekend from my doctor and it's like 5/500mg. When I took it Saturday night It didn't help the pain as much as I would have liked it too, so I took another one 4 hours later. Is that too much to take?

No... you're fine. As long as you're not abusing the pain killer (i.e. taking it when you dont have ANY pain)... doubling your dose is okay. I wouldnt even say that you need to wait 4 hours to take a second. My advice would be to take 1 1/2 pills---- if the pain is still there after 2 hours, take the second half (which would equal 2 pills). It's best to take Vicodin in halves--- just so you don't get sick. If you take too much at once, you can get very nauseous-- so try just upping your dose by a half--

Follow your Drs. orders !! The 500 mg. is acetominophen and per FDA guide lines 1000 mg.(1 gram) is the maximum your body can tolerate ! Remember that Vicodin contains codeine as well !! Ask your Dr. to prescribe Norco 5 -325(Generic equivalent is Hydrocodone) . That way you will only be getting 325 mg. of acetominophen. Also if the 5 mg. is not giving you pain relief talk to Dr. as there are higher dosages available(7.5 10.0). DO NOT TAKE MORE THAN THE PRESCRIBED DOSE !! THE USUAL DOSING SCHEDULE IS EVERY 4 TO 6 HRS. ALSO, AVOID ALCOHOL !! BAD MIX !!

I have chronic pain and use vicodin and other drugs as well but you probably need to follow your Dr. orders on the bottle. I take 1 every 4 hours but for break thru pain(bad pain requiring more meds) I will take 2 instead of one. My Dr. told me a person may take up to 8 in one day, but again. check with your Dr. he may up the dosage, but beware, they are addictive.

Your pills contain 5mg of hydrocodone and 500mg of acetominophen. As long as you didn't feel dizzy or nauseous after taking two, you should be fine. Taking two 5/500 Vicodin has the same amount of acetominophen as the normal adult dose of two maximum strength Tylenol. You'll be fine with that.

if the first one didn't help you it's OK to take the other four hours later. Usually you can take these every four hours and because you don't have an addiction to these drugs it would be OK. If it doesn't help you contact your doctor and ask for a different medication.

Pain meds usually last about 4 hrs. if it doesn't
relieve your pain ask your DR about a higher dose.
If you take it regularly its not healthy to take the 500mg
It comes it 325 mg tylenol. It comes in 7.5 and 10 mg also.
