Much to everyone's disappointment, you don't go to heaven immediately after you die.
Our souls are not pure enough to commune with God immediately after death. We more or less get to go to school for eons to learn the ways of All that God is and has created.
When the soul attains infinity and spirit status then we can begin to be in God's presence and commune with him.

Spiritual meaning: The place of the everlasting blessedness of the righteous; the abode of departed spirits.
Christ calls it his "Father's house" (John 14:2).
It is called "paradise" (Luke 23:43; 2 Cor. 12:4; Rev. 2:7).
"The heavenly Jerusalem" (Gal. 4:26; Hebrews 12:22; Rev. 3:12).
The "kingdom of heaven" (Matt. 25:1; James 2:5).
The "eternal kingdom" (2 Pet. 1:11).
The "eternal inheritance" (1 Pet. 1:4; Hebrews 9:15).
The "better country" (Hebrews 11:14, 16).
The blessed are said to "sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob," and to be "in Abraham's bosom" (Luke 16:22; Matt. 8:11); to "reign with Christ" (2 Tim. 2:12); and to enjoy "rest" (Hebrews 4:10, 11).
In heaven the blessedness of the righteous consists in the possession of "life everlasting," "an eternal weight of glory" (2 Cor. 4:17), an exemption from all sufferings for ever, a deliverance from all evils (2 Cor. 5:1, 2) and from the society of the wicked (2 Tim. 4:18), bliss without termination, the "fulness of joy" for ever (Luke 20:36; 2 Cor. 4:16, 18; 1 Pet. 1:4; 5:10; 1 John 3:2). The believer's heaven is not only a state of everlasting blessedness, but also a "place", a place "prepared" for them (John 14:2).

To me, i think heaven, is going to be how the world would've been if Adam and Eve haven't commited sin. But who knows? It could be the most plain place ever, and you'll have God's love which is all we probably need. Hell could be the best place ever, with all the sex you want, all the cursing, all the murdering, everything you want to do, but no love from God, which is really Hell. So heaven can basically be where you have God's love, but there's probably much more =).

Heaven is a place that we have not been yet. Other than those who have had near death experiences and have not really gotten to experience the fullness of Heaven, there is no way that any man can tell you. God tells us that He has prepared a place for those who love Him, that is so wonderful but, beyond our understanding.

If Heaven does exist, I would suspect that peace and quiet are not one of the "goodies" offered, as there would be too many bible banging Christians in one place for my taste.

I for one hope to have bbq ribs with honey, cajun style, while riding on a shooting star. Then to work it off, I'll go walking under the sea, maybe do a little exploring with my cat Sebastian who never had a chance past kitten.....
