I have both. The long haired actually sheds less than the short hair. The long haired has to be brushed more to prevent mats, etc. In the summer I shave both. And no, they don't have an undercoat like shih tzus or some of the others do.
I think you'll be happy with whichever one you decide on. They're wonderful little guys!

Both kinds shed, it's a matter of the length of the hair. I've had labs and golden retrievers and actually prefer the long-haired dogs. It's easier to pick up long hairs - short hairs fly everywhere and get into everything. But that's just my experience. Chihuahuas are little - it won't be that much hair anyway.

both do shed the longhair does have an undercoat. I have found that the short hair gets stuck in the rugs and furniture but the long hair vacuums up better it lays more on things.
As far as personality they are the same.

Long hair is messier than short hair.
If you decide to get one try:
petfinder.com
it is an excellent source for finding pets in every city. You can look at pictures of the pet and read about it. There is a fee as with all adoptions to cover spaying/neutering, vaccinations, and sometimes a microchip for indentification. The fee is much less than you would pay to buy a pet from a breeder. Adopting a homeless pet will save a life and make you feel great about yourself in return!

The long haired type do have a lot of hair, so they require more care. but personally, I love the way they look and I prefer them. The advantage of the short haired ones is that they don't have all that hair, so they're easier to take care of. It just depends on what you like better...

I have two chihuahuas and they are both short haired. One is white and one is brown. The white haired one sheds alot more than the brown one and has a much fuller coat. So maybe even getting a darker one will cut down on the shedding since you don't notice it as much!!!

Both are going to shed. Short-haired dogs aren't non-shedding...

all dogs have an under coat and yes all dogs shed even the bichon frises and shih tzus, (they shed less because they get groomed more often) anywho, it is totally your preference, do you want to brush it a lot? long hair has more grooming then a short hair

I just got a short haired one yesterday! they are cute!!!!!

I don't think that they shed. It all depends on how much brushing you want to do.
