Start where you are. Find a good instructor who will work with you on your level. Do not be intimidated by other students in group classes and do not stick with teachers who show off or who are not attentive to your physical limitations. Also, although people seem to practice physical yoga exercises as if it were a sport, not everyone who practices yoga will become remarkably limber and contortionist like. And not all yoga styles emphasize this anyway. Think about why you want to practice yoga: for physical and emotional health? For spiritual growth through a physical practice? Understanding this will help your motivation and self-acceptance.

You may want to start with relaxation yoga or a type of yoga that is more aerobic. There are a myriad types of "yoga" "out there" there now. Consider that part of the "fun" is exploring what works for you. You may want to rent or buy basic, beginner-level yoga videos first to practice in your home so that you can get a feel for what appeals to you. Then you can find a class to join that reflects your specific interest and needs.

Yoga is non-competitive. Challenge your body, but also listen to it. If at any point, you experience pain, either ease a little or stop immediately. Do not try to better others in the class or keep pace with them. Do yoga at your own pace.

Go to a yoga studio and talk to them, All yoga forms can be modified for each individual. Usually a pose has two or three variations that get progressively easier for those who are less experienced.
Yoga is great and has many benefits, just keep at it.

get in a yoga class with a good instructor. they will be able to show you intermediate positions you can do to help increase flexibility so eventually you can perform all the proper poses. a good instructor won't push you to the point of pain so never let anyone do that to you. i've had plenty of instructors that have tried to push me because i'm just not flexible at all and never have been.

Figure out a good stretching routine and apply it to your daily life, anywhere from 15-30min. a day. is good and it'll loosen up the muscles in case you wanted to do yoga.
