Plain 'ol kernels are quite cheap. Walmart has a package of them for right around $1 or $1.89 or so. Or, you can get the Orville Redenbocker (sp?) container for about $3.87 or something like that.

The best way to cook it on the stove is to use a big stainless steel mixing bowl (not a flat skillet-type of pan or pot). Put your oil, popcorn AND salt in all at once, cover it with whatever will cover the entire opening - you could even try some alumnimum foil if you don't have a lid that fits - bring it up to temperature on medium heat and let it pop away! Immediately take it off the stove when the popping slows down so it won't burn.

A less-fattening way to cook it is to get an air popper (about $15 at walmart.) Dump your kernels in, place a bowl in front of the popper, turn the popper on; and, as the popcorn goes into the bowl, spray some cooking oil spray on the kernels as you also sprinkle popcorn salt on them too - do this in a layering effect so you get salt even distributed.

Just buy store brand popcorn kernels. They are quite inexpensive.
Be sure you have your oil good and hot before you add the kernels and have the lid for your pot handy as they'll start popping pretty quickly.
Be careful not to burn the popcorn.Once the popping slows right down, remove from the heat.It burns quickly if you don't.
Making your own is still the best popcorn in the world.Microwave is good but not as good as this.
By the way, you'll get a big bag of kernels for a couple dollars.

I haven't made popcorn the 'old-fashioned' way since microwave popcorn came out - too convenient and almost as good - the other way is not worth my time.

I like Newman's Own or Pop-Secret (with extra butter, mmm)

i admire Orville Redenbacher's microwavable popcorn- in simple terms the undeniable white sort. Then I soften butter and pour it over with a touch bit salt. Soooo sturdy! Haha sneaking in nutrients to the flicks is a lot exciting! They in no way have what you like so we sneak in a number of our fave candies and we get them for a million/2 the fee so, all of it works out! :)
