i thought this problem is for females. why do males binge/purge? i thought males love food! I know a guy that do this. what causes this in him? how can he be stopped what harm is it doing?

Eating disorders can be found in any sex at any age! He might be doing this due to a low self esteem or pressure to fit in to some group that he thinks he is not good enough for. He is doing all kinds of damage to himself and he could be damaging his body forever. Talk to him and try to get him to seek help!!!

Eating disorders don't discriminate. Men can have mental problems just as much as women. It could be people telling a guy he's fat while he's growing up, some girl that rejects him at a sensitive time in his life because he's fat, or just trying to lose some weight like he saw someone on TV doing.
Guys can also love shopping, style their hair, use purses (man-bags), cry during sad movies, etc...... the only thing that's solely male or female would be anatomy.
The only way he can stop is the same way that a woman can stop.... by seeing what they are doing to themselves and wanting to stop. I'd recommend that he see a counselor or therapist.... but he needs to be shown what he's doing to his body. Point out the problems he's causing for his throat, stomach, and even muscle development.
