It is not up to us to questin why but rather to pray, and trust .God created the potential for evil because God created humans with freedom of choice. We choose to love, or hate to do good or to do evil. We choose to trust in God, or to question him. This is called free will.Good people sometimes forget to trust in God. To lay their burdens down. We sometimes become stronger when we must persevere through trials like Job did in the Bible.

LOL...That's a little convoluted. But I'd say both happen.
"Bad" things happen to "good" people because "good" and "bad" are relative terms. A person might lead what we would call an exemplary life, but that won't stop him from developing cancer if he's biologically inclined to do so. This is because the one type of "good" has nothing to do with the other type of "bad." It's not a moral judgment.
I suppose for a person diagnosed with cancer, the choice is to fight it or to die, and if the person is fortunate enough to make it through, it can be seen as a moral victory; and perhaps the person will even come to embrace the experience as a necessary part of his life.

I think both things happen to both sides
When bad things happen to good people, the good people will use the bad things in order to become more experienced and a better person ("that which does not kill me makes me stronger")
When bad things happen to bad people, they become even worse and bitter towards the world. In the end they ultimately create their own bad things.
I guess the answer to your question is a good person will perceive a bad thing as an obstacle to be overcome, while a bad person will perceive a bad thing as either the norm or fuel to their fire.

I think some people's lot in life is better than others. I thinks some "bad" people have alot of "good" things happen to them. Similarly, I think alot of "good" people have alot of "bad" things happen to them.
As people we tend to get stuck on this issue, which ultimately leads to confusion over what's fair and what is not fair. Some get angry at God for allowing "bad" things; others get angry at other people for not helping. And the the whole thing never gets resolved.
Regardless of our lot in life, or whether we have been "unfairly" dealt a poor hand, so to speak, we ought to remember that we are but dust and ashes. Job reminds us that we are insignificant, apart from Christ. We have all sinned and DESERVE eternal torment in the lake of fire. Yet, we have the audacity to think we deserve anything, and then get angry at God or people for not doing something about it. We didn't even have a say in our own birth.
Therefore, we should all humble ourselves, and realize that through God's love we have been given a way and a hope of salvation through His Son Jesus Christ. We simply need to accept the Gift in faith, and live accordingly. Amazingly, whether we are in prison or shipwrecked like Paul, we can still sing praises to the Lord. When our child is dying of cancer, we can learn to lay our child at the feet of God. When we are scared, we can have peace that passes understanding from Christ. These things are for all, and are not "bad" things, even when we think we are somehow treated unfairly.

Nothing is good or bad.
It is only our perception that makes it so.
Nice paradox to ponder about tho. Because holy books do categorize Gods wrath as bad things that happen to people who could be both good and bad.

Yes to both. Did anyone ever promise you a rose garden. God is there to give us the courage to survive the tragedies. Do you really expect Him to route nature around the "good" and target the "bad?"

Bad things certainly do happen to good people, but it generally isn't personal. There is no divine hand causing disease, natural disasters, or other calamities, or protecting us from them. Bad things sometimes happen to people, regardless of whether they are good or bad.
