I used to do weights at the gym, but then stopped using the arm ones because they made my arms bigger. Now I'm wanting to work out again, but what can I do for my arms to get toned, but not bulky?

it is physiologically impossible to "tone" muscle, it is always that way, body fat covers up the true shape. using low weights and high reps does not cause a greater loss of body fat that is the single most incorrect piece of health/fitness information that is spread around. there is not one piece of scientific information that supports those statements. if you were gaining too much muscle before than the problem was your caloric intake was too high. muscle mass does not increase if there is not an excess of calories.

one more thing. if you use the same weights when working out all the time do not expect much in the way of physical changes. if you are using the same weights in june as you did in january expect to look exactly the same.

You can't "TONE" muscle--forget all the myths about women building muscle. Another myth: Women will get "Bulky" if you lift heavy weights. Women CANNOT get "BULKY" by lifting weights, it's genetically impossible unless they use some type of enhancement. The only way to build muscle is to lift heavy with low reps; but it also depends on what muscle you want to build. Your biceps? forearms? Train every area you have a balanced look.

Doing workouts like Pilates helps to build lean muscles rather than large and bulky muscles that are easier to pull and more prone to injury.

Less weight with more reps will tone. If you can do between 8-10 reps you are building muscle. 11-20 you are toning.
