Take it back to where you bought it and ask them to send it for an estimate. Its unlikely the warranty will cover the repairs, for reasons already stated. It may cost as much to repair as a new camera would cost.

If you buy a new camera, at least listen to the sales pitch for the in-store warranty. Some of them offer replacement within the first 30 days - unless you've run over the camera with your car or hit it with a hammer.

Buy a tabletop tripod for your new camera. If it doesn't have a tripod socket (a threaded hole in the bottom of the camera) you should be able to find one with an adapter, like a bracket for your camera to sit in.

It must be a digital cam. I have one that works that way, but the computer refused to acknowledge it, the last few times I tried. And the person who fixed the computer removed that software, so the problem still hasn't been solved. Anyway, when my digital camera was broken like that, (lense wont go in) I asked my brother, who bought it for me, to send it to the manufactur, through the store it came from. I don't recall the cost, but it was worth it . No problems with it, since, except for the computer related one.
