Dont lie to the unemployment office. Your boss had to pay your taxes. It will show on his forms the date he/she is paying for. If the unemployment catches you its a crime, and if you ever lose your job again expect that paperwork coming from the unemployment office to be much slower.

Give them back the check and tell them when you started. They will find out. I mean you can do what you want, but it is misrepresentation and it is a crime.

To your other question, no you cant collect unemployment while you are working F/T and going to school.

Always be honest because the truth comes out in the end. If you lie about it, you could wind up having to pay back the money PLUS interest and/or fees. Seriously, they're the government. All they'd have to do is call your employer and ask when you started & you'd be screwed.
I'm sure you were hoping to collect the money, but you've got a job now...so you're not unemployed...and therefore can't collect unemployment. I think you could get some angry answers from people accusing you of mooching off the government (and them) if you don't do the right thing.
If you're looking for money to cover costs of schooling, that's what student loans are for. They've got tons of companies who will give you up to $40k a year for school and living expenses. You should really consider that route, versus cheating the government.

Tell them the truth. You won't be able to collect u.c. benefits for the time when you were working.
