It's on my lower back, but it's obviously a mass, not bone. It's causing pain when I sit up or bend forward. It's right over the spine.

There's no red streaking, no head to it. It's somewhat soft, about the size of a gumball.

You could be leaking spinal fluid. Get checked as soon as possible.

I bet it is an Sebaceous Cyst. The previous answers are not plausible for a few different reasons (spinal bifida is a birth defect and doesnt occur in adults and a herniated disc doesnt drain as such). It is probably infected, so go see a doc. It sounds like it occured rather quickly which is why it is a normal tissue cyst of some type. Not an emergency but go see a dr.

It could be a lipoma, a benign fatty tumor, it could be a strained and swollen muscle, it could be a ruptured disc, it could be any number of other things....you need to see a doctor to find out.
