"Belief in creationism is inversely correlated to education; of those with post-graduate degrees, only 22% believe in strict creationism."

Why do you think this is true?

Disclaimer - Creationists, I'm not calling you on uneducated. I'm wondering why you believe this general trend exists.

I'd say that the more you know about evolution, the evidence supporting it and review process for scientific discoveries, the harder it is to reject it. Also the higher your education level the more likely you are to do your own research and less likely to accept Christian "pseudo science" statements as fact.

I think the key word is "strict". I do believe in creation, I also believe in evolution, they work hand in hand. Someone had to create everything first! While my way of thinking may not be popular to some (like my dad), to me it makes sense. I've even had pastors agree that no where is it mentioned that God's day was 24 hours.
I'm sure there are many more of us educated Christiansout there that feel and think along the same lines. So, we believe in Creation, just not strict Creation, as indicated in the poll.

As with all such inverse correlations with education, it comes down to which argument is easier to believe.

Creationism can be easily understood by thick people, while evolution requires the comprehension of some very counter-intuitive principles.

My experience has been that most people who don't believe in evolution do not understand it and have all kinds of misconceptions as to what it is all about. I would suppose that the less educated a person is the less likely they are to understand evolution.

To be blunt - creationism is a cop out. it is for those that are essentially to lazy to take the time or effort to really examine the natural world.

I'm surprised the number is that high. 22% with post grad degrees? Where did they go? Oh, I forgot about online degrees and the bible belt private schools. I would like to see the percentage of those who believe that that actually attended a real school.
