In England, where the language was born, there are many accents influenced by local use, the same as with any other language in any other country, and now there are foreign ethnic influences as well. In the USA, the same applies, only that the foreign influences are older. The same could be said of Canada, Australia and elsewhere. Accents just happen, there is nothing to be ashamed of. When I quit worrying I became more fluent and once the people you are talking to knows you are a foreigner, the accent wont be important as long as you enunciate clearly.

No one wants to admit it but...yes your accent is vulgar. It suggests terrible things. Do you think you could have someone with you at all times without the accent??!!
I am teasing of course. Everyone I know loves the French "way of speaking" and Im sure you must get tired of compliments. Don't lose it. It gives you a great lead in to ask for a date. Besides, you came by the accent honestly. Diabolique!

Don't be. I discovered talking with foreigners that noone likes his or her own accent while speaking another language, and they wince hearing it when someone else speaks. And yet the natives usually love those accents. Don't you find the British and US accents nice in French?

It's only unattractive if the accent is so thick that people who speak English have trouble understanding you.
As long as you speak clearly and people don't have a problem communicating with you in English, it's not ugly, it just shows that you're obviously Educated.

Americans LOVE foreign accents! I have a friend who has used her accent to further her business. Often times an accent gives a certain impression of status and in her case it has worked handsomely. I'm sure you sound lovely!!! And who are WE to judge you! Don't be ashamed anymore my friend, mon amie!

I'm in the minority here, because I tend to dislike the French accent because I can't understand their English! And when they speak English it sounds exactly like it does when they speak French.
But that's just my opinion.

You must never be ashamed of anything about yourself. Accents do not matter as much as what is being said. What matters is the content of the conversation, not what it sounds like.
I hope this helped, even a little.

No, not at all. I love the French accent, I think it sounds beautiful. I like it more than American accents.

You shouldn't be ashamed. It is part of who you are. If you really feel the need to correct it (which you shouldn't), try language tapes or cds. They can help with pronunciation which tends to be the main issue with accents.
