That is not true at all....... everyone telling you that it can't. The liver is very resiliant and is one of the few organs that CAN regenerate and repair itself. My husband was going to a gastroenterologist (liver doc) for years and he's the one who told me that it can and I've seen myself that my husband's liver enzymes did get better after he stopped drinking..... Look it up on any of the medical sites. Milk thistle also helps in repairing high liver enzymes.

I don't clam to know much about the liver so keep that in mind. I don't think it is possible to make it better after the damage is done. However I have a liver disease. I am not supposed to drink a lot of alcohol(doc said 1 beer a month) because it raises my bilirubin levels(has to do with the liver). You can look it up but one of the things that decreases the bilirubin level is caffeine. So I don't think you can fix the done damage but you can stop drinking. If you do drink from time to time have some coffee to balance the difference.

I'm a recovering alcoholic myself with much liver damage for my age. The liver can repair itself to an extent if the level of cirrohsis is not too severe.
There are blood test your doctor can take to measure how healthy or not your liver is. A couple of the readings that spring to mind are Gamma GT and Bilirubin counts that can give an indication how damaged your liver is.
Excessive drinking depletes the body of most vitamins and minerals but vitamin B1 in particular needs to be supplemented. When I was taken into rehab I was given massive dosses of B1. There is a herb you can get from most health stores called 'milk thistle' which some studies claim can reverse liver damage. I take it myself.

OK, this is what I was told 8 years ago. I had my gallbladder out and I had been a pretty heavy drinker. While in there, the surgeon noticed I had a "fatty liver" from drinking. He told me to eat ice cream and hard candies every day. Why this advice, I don't know, I was too doped up on morphine to ask. But apparently it helps the liver in some way.
That was my wake-up call.

Carlsberg make a particular beer called Special Brew. This is a 0% alcohol beer, and actually contains minerals that are good for liver repair. Try three or four cans.

I'm afraid once the damage is done, it may be too late, the liver does not regenerate, as far as I know. Had a friend that drank everyday and took pain medication, developed cirossis...even after stopping both...died within 3 years.

There is no way to "fix" damage done to your liver! If you're having a problem with alcohol, STOP DRINKING! The best way to do this, other than staying away from places and friends with alcohol, is AA! Good Luck to you!!!

Until cirrhosis kicks in, most damage to the liver can be undone once you stop drinking.
And it doesn't take that long: Maybe two months.

one cannot undo the effects of alcohol on their liver. you can stop drinking to help you from that point on however the damage done is done, that's why people are encouraged not to drink a lot and not to smoke, because the effects on your organs cannot be reversed.
