I describe myself as a "spiritual atheist". An atheist is someone who doesn't believe in a god or gods. That doesn't preclude a person from contemplating other avenues of spirituality. Reincarnation, life after death, ghost/poltergeist phenomena, ESP, etc. None of those concepts are god-dependant.

Um, I guess that depends on your definition of spiritual, whicvh is why I avoid that generally meaningless term. An atheist does not believe in the supernatural, thus no gods, spirits, souls, angels, demons, or any of those other fantasies religion has created.

However, some people have misused the word spiritual when they should be saying sensual; that is, a person who responds and focuses on the sensory perceptions. Certainly, many atheists fall into this definition, but most would never misuse spiritual in this fashion.

Depending on your definition of Atheist. The moment you lebel someone Atheist, the answer then becomes no.
There are many other religion that is much older and more spiritual than Christianity; I mean take Hinduism; it dated back more than 5000 years and loads of spiritual rites in it.
Now, define atheist and I will define spiritual.

Yes. Try reading "The Road Less Traveled" by M. Scott Peck.

This is a spiritual book (and self applied psychology) - that was written by a man who, at that time, was an atheist.

Hi Linz,
I've been looking at your questions and I'm intrigued. I wonder whether you're genuinely looking for an answer to this or whether you're just enjoying winding people up?

If you're a wind up artist, well, OK.

If you genuinely want an answer, then read Ken Wilber. Either 'One Taste' or, more intellectually challenging, 'Eye of the Spirit'.
The whole question of spirituality / religion / belief is too large and too complex for a question and answer site like this one.

Spirituality does not neccessarily imply a belief in God. It definitely does not mean that you belong or subscribe to a certain religion.

Spirituality is simply striving to understand that you have a connection to the world around you. You are not isolated. It is a conscious realization that you are a part of something that is greater than just yourself.

You cannot be an atheist and be spiritual, at least not to your own knowledge, because everyone has a spiritual need born into them,

Of course you can - just look at Buddhists, Taoists, and those who follow the wisdom of Confucius. Spirituality often becomes the betterment of self (which I believe is what spirituality is to those of most religions, anyway).

Buddhism is, at its core, atheistic. I am an atheist, but I do practice Buddhism, albeit poorly. Buddhism is probably the least understood spritual path in America. We do NOT worship Buddha and do not regard him as a god.
