I don't think it matters what you give him. Trust me, when I was in the hospital, I didn't care if you give me a book, a movie, or something, just anything to keep the boredom down to a minimum level.

If you really know this guy, then you should know what he likes. It doesn't take anything to change what he likes. If he's crazy about a certain kind of movies before, most likely he's not going to change just because he recently got diagnosed with Leukemia.

Even if you don't have the money or time to buy something, bring yourself! Boy if I had most visitors when I was in the hospital, trust me, makes the time go faster. Being there and having someone just hang and talk to me was, to me, the best thing you can ever get.

Better than a boring book lol
Good luck

Do you know if he is spiritual? If so...a cross necklace maybe. My brother hung his on his chemo pole all the time that he wasn't wearing it. It became his symbol of hope.
A journal that everyone can sign a page with encouraging messages to him ...he will want one anyway to take notes when at the docs and the messages will really help him when he is feeling down and alone.
Just to have so many people supporting him will mean so very much to him....right nwo...he's got to be scared out of his mind so the more folks that offer rides to the doc appts or to just go and sit with him...or phone numbers of friends that he can call in the middle of the night to jsut vent or chat...little things mean the most. You're a good friend to want to show support!

It may sound morbid. Get him a lawyer who'll draw up a last will and testament. All those questions he has about what will become of his loved ones and his affairs will at least be settled. Don't just blindly hope that chemo or radiation will heal him and that he still has a lot of time left.

Oh dear. I hope he gets better!

If he's into sports, how about a jersey for his favorite team? If he has a hobby, perhaps he would like something associated with it.

And a get-well card is usually good.

Your friend will be in my thoughts and prayers.
