Many people would like to believe that due to their distorted view of Islam courtesy of the Western media. This is not true.
1. First of All, yes there are some extremist factors in the Muslim society. These factors are currently being heavily fueled by the foreign policies of the West the conflicts in Muslim world and the various Puppet dictatorship supported by the west in the Muslim countries.
2. The West sometimes even labels Muslims who are very keen on praying five times a day and try not to drink Alcohol or eat non-Halal( Muslim dietary restrictions) foods. This angers many of these Muslims who are actually the Majority and the Moderate sector. I think we should refine our definitions and should not marginalize people who do no need to be marginalized.
3. Islam is currently on an up trend everywhere. Very highly educated and pious people are becoming very religious. This is a good sign for both Islam and the West.

Islam is not to be protected by a group of extremist or a group of people whose actions conflict with the teaching of the Quran. Allah himself has promised to protect his religion. So no i do not think islam is collapsing from inside. If there are people giving it a bad name there are much more who are following the religion with their firm belive. There are also many entering the religion everyday. And i do not think they are entering so they can become terrorsits. They see the inner beauty of the religion and revert to it for many revelations and not to mention it is the fastest growing religion in this world even after all the post 9/11 propaganda all over the world.
But it is very sad that many musims today do not follow islam or they follow partial islam.

Most religions fracture after the initiator dies probably because those who take over have to interpret what was said and interpretations are always open to challenge. If you add to this that the power hungry will use any emotional means to support their cause and they will misinterpret scripture to suit their purpose. What is happening now is a power struggle and power struggles often force polarisation - e.g. you're either for us or against us. Extremists use extreme measures to force the polarisation and break up existing structures. Order turns to chaos which often works in favour of those who initiate it. The only answer to polarisation is the holding of a strong middle ground. If the centre collapses people are forced to either of the two extremes which often ends in warfare.

Any time you have a religion that starts with "secret knowledge from God" that only the founder gets access to, then God "takes back" the evidence, that's a religion that is doomed to fragmentation and bad press, not to mention systematic exploitation of its adherants. Mormonism is the same way.

ok, a lot of muslims here are going to blame the media.
if you are one of these muslims, don't you think that if your religion meant anything to you, you would drop the burqa, roll up your LONGGGG sleeves, open your eyes, and get down and dirty in the task of reviving your reputation and that of your religion? most muslims who blame the media do NOTHING more than hold "islam awareness days" in their schools/universities and come on yahoo answers. what the hell is that going to do???????
do you think black people would have gotten the right to vote by writign editorials in newspapers? do you think women would have gained the right to vote by just ASKING for it???
you need to do something that makes an IMPACT. something that makes the 6 o' clock news, day in and day out.
this pussssyfooting around with awareness days, and lectures, and guest speakers, is garbage.

Welll...seeing how the quran was written during two totally different periods of muhamed's life...does it surprise you?
Medina and Mecca...one a timeof peace..then replaced by a time of war...no wonder there's an argument about what direction to go...peace or war..both are heavily written about.

One factor which could potentially cause the fall of islam is the differing in sects. there is no need to differentiate on the basis of a political issue, afterall we are all consider ourselves muslims.

this is the last religion from God on earth, therefore, it will get kicked from every direction. just like when Jesus was facing challenges from every direction, just like Abraham, just like Moses.
