On the sofa? Try doing sit up's on something hard but soft. When you do them on the sofa, your body melts into it and you have a cushion thus making it easier for you. Try stretching your back, then doing some.

try doing crunches instead of situps - they are more mainstream now because it was determined they are just as effective while being easier on your back.
You should also to your crunches on a flat rigid surface... like a carpeted floor, or with a thin cushion on hardwood floor. Even grass is acceptable.
A couch, is not acceptable.

There are abdominal exercise devices on the market to reduce stress on the back. I would look into those.

different excerises suit different people..
if u carry on you may end up damaging your back..
try to find different ways of exersize your stomach as it is clear your straining your back ! x

your back is aching from all the exercising. do a few stretches first and pick up your posture, dont slouch
