Conservative therapy is usually all that is needed.

Patients should avoid sports that involve heavy quadriceps loading.

Patients should increase hamstring and quadriceps flexibility.

Avoid physical activities that require frequent deep knee bending for 2-4 months.

Therapeutic exercises to strengthen the quadriceps and the hamstrings are prescribed.

Orthopedic devices

Infrapatellar strap

Knee brace

Walking cylinder cast (full extension for 3-6 wk)

Analgesics

Control pain and inflammation. I would recommend you try Advil liquid capsules, they work very fast on inflammation and pain. I find this to be the best over the counter pain treatment available.

you may ask the md for a prescription antiinflammatory like voltaren. it does take time, and you must take your meds on a schedule, not just when the pain flares. you need to have the pain management get ahead of the pain. a knee neophrene tube also works by keeping in the warmth.,
another trick, buy some capsaicin.but be verry careful applying it.only a smaller than toothpaste amount for both knees.apply with a plastic spoon, never use your hands.they do sell an applicator type of cream too) looks like a deordorant stick). the warmth will biuld up over a few days and if u keep applying it will decrease the pain for sure.good luck and remember-youll grow out of this ;)michele
