my little 1 year old male maltese is, i find just a shadow of himself.
i hardly recognise him. he kind of just wanders from place to place and watches the others dogs play & is generally grumpy.
he is not eating & not as "happy" as he used to be.
he has always been picky but now he is not even eating his fav. home cooked meals.
he has cronic constiation & did have some special diets from the vet.
now i have gone to 2 different vets. they have done blood tests, x rays etc and can't find anything wrong with him.
now his symptoms are:
- sleepy
- no appetite
- nibbles at his food here and there
- doesn't play
- somewhat in a daze
- moody
- slight diarreah
- slightly swollen lymph nodes (according to doc)
and worst of all
- he all of a sudden, sometimes every day sometimes not for 2 days, squeels in absolute pain.
- he then won't lie down, jsut stays sitting.
call me paranoid about my dog but i am not imagining things! there is something wrong but what?? help!
do i look 4 another vet? help

The first ting I would do is find another vet. Make sure you have copies of all the tests your vet has done and then go to another. There's something wrong with your dog and if your vet isn't willing to work with your to find out what than a new pair of eyes is very much needed.

I'll try to help the best I can but most people believe their vet over an ordinary person which is what I am. I have researched health and animals for many years and I think I understand them pretty well. People are also brain washed when it comes to food.
Just a guess, the vet is putting the poor little dog on a high fiber diet ---- this is a NO NO!!!!!!! -- (Think of wolves) Dogs are carnivores ---- no low fat diets ---- the meat is where the dogs gets its water from primarily -- start there -- start feeding the dog the fattiest hamburger you can find (73/27) and get him on a multi-vitamin. In my opinion, he is dehydrated (I'm 95% sure) ---------- He also may have an infection but begin with the hamburger because that will help hydrate him and heal him. (our cells are made of amino acids, what protein is converted into and the wall of our cells are made of saturated fat and cholesterol) - Fry it up and make sure you feed him the grease. (the grease might be all he will eat at first) Please trust me on this one ---- people always make jokes about how long my animals live, ----- it's no accident. I compare my dogs with wolves because their DNA is between 87 and 97% wolf --- Wolves are obviously carnivores (meat eaters) -- Good Luck, I sincerely mean that

I would def get a second opinion but also sometimes dogs get moody and have loss of appetite when the are bored. Do you give your dog proper exercise and entertainment. Maybe try walking everyday if the dog is not in pain or new toys. Also take a look at your life have you changed jobs or started working more hours. Have you been stressed out or unable to play with your dog as usual because all of these things can cause depression and anxiety in a dog and talk about any of these poss with your vet. Hope this helps a little.

I would document the dogs pain on the bad days. Maybe record the dog in pain and show it to a vet. The more the vet can see the dogs symptoms the better they can treat them. I would also keep looking for a vet that can help until you find a solution. I am sorry about your dog and I hope you can figure out what's wrong.

1. Take him to a veterinary college... they usually have highly qualified specialized veterinary professors teaching new and upcoming vet students. I've found that when the answer is hard to find, having someone who specializes in the field (probably internal medicine) and a bunch of young students working on it is a great way to find possible solutions. It is worth whatever distance you have to travel.

2. Find out where former veterinary professors are now practicing. For myself, I find out where the reproductive and various vets who taught orthopedics, opthamology etc are now practicing.

3. Contact the breeder. Get on a Yahoo! list for Maltese breeders/owners. These are the people who know the breed and may have experienced what you're going through. For instance: Samoyeds can have bad reactions to various anesthetics and tetracycaline.... Vets aren't taught this.. its rather specialized to the breed.

Take him to a new vet, and keep taking him to different vets until you find one that helps him. Your dog is not just acting , something is wrong or he would be happy, and it could be very serious.
Good luck and I'll be thinking of him. The nearest animal hospital would be a good place to start.

Try a new vet. Or take him to an emergency clinic right after he squeals because it sounds like that is when the pain worsens and maybe they can diagnose something inflamed in his body or a potential illness. (Maybe something to do with his stomach) It sounds pretty serious. Poor little dog. For now try to comfort him and let him know you love him, especially when he's nervous at the vet's office.

Yes, look for another vet. Find a vet school nearby, and take him there. Texas A&M University has a super vet school, and they can diagnose almost anything. Get your records from the first two vets and take him to a vet school. If not available, take him to another vet.

Go to a third and ask about splinters in the digestive tract. If you have to see a forth. Something is bothering the dog. You didnt say how old he is. The pain of arthritis could also be causing the dog pain. Good Luck

Yes...find another vet immediately...choose one by asking other dog owners, particularly breeders. They find the best vets. Also, search the internet for a good canine health site to help your frame of mind in the meantime. Good luck!
