I have not lived in England for 11 years and have no idea who Pete Doherty is. All I can see in this question is that he has been arrested again. I wasn't aware that being arrested was proof of guilt. Are the people baying for his blood forgetting that under British law, you are innocent until proven guilty

I completely agree. Lock him up and throw away the key.

I takes the p!ss that he keeps getting away with this sort of thing. Anyone else WOULD have been busted a long time ago.

He has had more than his fair share of chances to avoid prison. He should be banged up for the maximum sentence possible to make an example of him.

You clearly aren't familiar with the "I'm very famous" defence.
Remember the bloke from REM who assaulted a stewardess, he got Bono and his pals to come along to court and say "But he's very famous" and he got off.

Alex Ferguson - refused to give a sample when stopped for drink driving. But, he told the magistrates he was "very famous" and therefore was clearly not guilty. He got off.

Then there's Michael Jackson. He said (or rather his lawyers did, he wouldn't take the stand) "But I'm very famous" and the jurors noticed the accusers were NOT very famous. He got off.

OJ Simpson - he was "very famous" and therefore clearly not guilty. The evidence of fame outweighed the evidence of guilt.

Many people complain that it's one law for the famous and one for the rest of us.
But that's just being unreasonable.

Anyone can benefit from the "I'm very famous" defence - as long as they are in fact "very famous". If you are not "very famous" then I'm afraid you have to get involved in all that tiresome evidence stuff about whether you did it or not.

Pete Doherty is a very famous drug-user and therefore it would be unfair to lock him up for doing that which has made him famous.
I think he ought to be locked up for making criminally-awful records, myself.

Hello, Yes he encourages other people to hold the law in disrespect along with many other so called celebrities,Full of self ego f.o.s. a time inside with the long term lags would make him think about his attitude outside. They might even make him their (pretty boy). Sucking on a weed would take on different meaning. It would most certainly make him think twice about putting wet ended dope in his mouth again.

I'm sick of celebs using their status to get leniency. They are role models to many so whilst their sentences need not be more severe than the average joe they should be comparable. Otherwise what does this tell kids?

All too true. I work in criminal justice and it makes me sick to see him given Community Order after Community Order, when ordinary offenders I supervise are sent to prison for far less and would never get away with such repeat offending. Grrrrr!

Definitely, if there wasn't an issue with overcrowding in our prisons he'd have gone a long time ago - it's so frustrating!

Don't be silly. He's a cebre-- cemet--- castra---

..he's FAMOUS.

That puts him above the law in this country just like it does in the States. The law is there for these people to play with, that's all.
