It causes addiction, and all its consequences.

I believe it does, but only in very specific situations. Internet surfing by itself is not a bad habit, and it shouldn't be considered anything harmful. However, it can easily become something that contributes to stress and depression, as well as other physical and mental ailments.

I think what happens is that an obsessive personality is accentuated by the access the internet provides. Someone who has obsessive qualities is more likely to display them with their use of the internet than in other situations. This is especially true with people who develop internet addictions, and while surfing the internet itself may not cause stress or depression, the lack of activity that occurs due to the overuse of the internet does have an effect.

I've noticed in my own situation that whole hours of days can be lost surfing the internet, in fact, this response is nothing more than an example of the useless activity that goes on in my day due to the internet. If I did not have anything better to do perhaps it would not be a problem, but I am eschewing other areas of my life, almost closing my mind down to get lost in the internet waves. This causes a lot of stress and depression, stress because it makes things build up that I didn't deal with right away, depression because I fail to accomplish things.

My best advice is to try and control internet surfing if you find it is having any sort of harmful impact on your life. I'm trying myself, and have recognized a few websites that absorb and destroy my time and have decided to avoid them. Social networking sites are notorious for time wasting, but forums and places like this are also bad.

Some of the elements I did not mention involve the impact that excessive internet and computer use has on the people you are around. I also know from experience that individuals who interact with people with excessive internet use find it extremely aggravating and this can also cause stress and depression due to making a social relationship worse.

Hopefully this helps, and more people learn better time control and internet usage habits because of it, otherwise they will suffer because of it.

Depression can cause stress, and stress will cause more depression. It is easy to become paranoid and anxious when you've made some choices you regret and are living with the immediate consequences that you wish were avoidable. It is natural to want to cry or want to cry sometimes, to feel anger or bitter toward others, to feel like you're being punished. Once you know this, you can comfort yourself with the idea that things can and will get better if you work at it, or if you just allow yourself time to adjust to the new times you're having. Learn to forgive yourself too.

I know it can cause eye strain which can cause headaches etc, but it probably depends more on what you are viewing, if you're viewing stressful and depressing stuff, then ofcourse.

If you are doing it without any purpose for long times then yes. sometimes people when they are addicted , they just sit infront of the computer for the sake of it. so it can cause stress but i doubt about the depression part.
