Not for me. I like certain drivers for their driving style and personality, not for the brand of car they drive. Nowadays the cars are pretty much identical anyway.

There is no "wrong" way to choose which drivers to root for. Still, it amazes me that some fans will follow a favorite driver for years, then drop him like a rock when he switches brands. Back when the cars really were different, Richard Petty drove Plymouths for some years, switched to Ford for a year, went back to Plymouths, switched to Chevy, Olds, Buick, and finished his career in a Pontiac. Bill Elliott drove Fords for many years, then switched to Dodge, and is now back in a Ford. It's rare for a driver to stay in one brand of car for his entire career.

Yes. Anything that has Ford, Dodge or Toyota on the hood is not a favorite of mine. I only like the Chevy drivers. That's probably because my mom used to sell cars at a GM dealer.

Certainly it does but not solely. I'm a Chevy fan and Jimmie Johnson is my favorite driver but I really like some other drivers for ALL the other makes of cars. Carl Edwards is my 2nd favorite driver and I also like Matt Kenseth, Elliot Sadler, Jeremy Mayfield and many others. The other thing is if your driver switches manufacturers are you going to not like them anymore? Most people like the driver more than what they are driving but they are definitely connected.

If you are a fan of the manufacturer, then yes it does. I have heard of fans that are Ford fans only, and will root for Ford drivers only.

The rest of us are more for supporting one or several drivers we choose to like.

Not really.. although I am a Chevy person (& a Jeff Gordon fan) it wouldn't matter what kind of car he drove!
