By T. A . you mean the Territorials??, the British part-time Army??

Better have a good knowledge of the French Language.

They will check out your background as well so trying to hide your previous medical history will be found out.

If your from the Colonies then you better be careful as an American deserted the Legion without having finished basic training and then wrote a book about his time in the Legion (pure fantasy) the Foreign Legion keeps a close eye on any Americans joining up to make sure they don't pull a stunt like that again.

If you do get into trouble they will ship you out to a Legion penal unit in the Desert of Africa and no its not Beau Geste

Its a 5 years contract you will sign for a its gonna be tough so get used to speaking French & German, the second most spoken language in the Legion.

I'm sure they are still a hard bunch but they are cleaning up the act. I read not long ago and it was on the news as the reputation they had and how they were going to change some things. Yes they were considered the mean bunch and you had to pretty much denounce your citizenship. But now they are looking at people if you are running from the law then you will have to face it b4 you try them. I'm sure there is still some very hard cases still around and would give a person a difficult time for you would be at the bottom of the ladder and they have been in and around it much longer and have made a name for themselves. Good luck.

I looked into it years ago but be careful you could lose your US citizenship and be branded a mercenary. You will have to serve 5 yrs with them, be given a knew name and money account and they are a tough unit, so think about it long and hard. Also do you speak french?

If you think you had it bad, the FFL rejects people for little things like cavities.
