My brother is a piece of crap but im just wondering whats going to happen to him. he got arrested yesterday and i guess was charged with 2 counts of a class A felony. He tried to sell ecstasy and special K to a undercover police officer I believe. Hes the black sheep of our family, Ive never even done drugs! I had to look up what special k even was. They also charged him as well with a class a misdeamenor for having marijuana as well. How much jail time is he looking at?

he DID get 2 class a felonies. it was in the paper, on the news, told to my parents. he is 24 so he is not a minor and he has been in the county jail twice for drugs and breaking into a bar. it did say how ever class a felony in the second degree so i dont know if that makes a difference or not.

Yes. (Yes He Is) but this is you brother after all. You must love him. We will not drag you down, he will be in prison. He will need a good friend on the outsode.
Class A felony (equivalent to a capitol offense) is very serious and similar across all 50 states and even Canada.
The jail time will very greatly based on prior arrests.
Most states have similar penalties but some states give the judge more latitude than others.
For a Class A Felony, the penalty is imprisonment for life; however, for a repeat offender, the term of imprisonment may increase up to 2 years if the person was previously convicted of one or more misdemeanors, and up to 6 years if the person was previously convicted for a felony.
your brother must have been dealing or suspected of dealing to get charges that way.
Multiple count class A felonies are not eligible for diversionary programs and thylawyer is not a lawyer and does not know the law.
A life sentence is normally commuted to 30 years after completion of some part.
It is best that you do not talk to a lawyer. You brother will need to do that. You should talk to a minister and the local jail ministry about making sure your brother has commissary and whatever you can to make his stay tolerable.
*****************
There are certain things that you are not allowed to bring with you into prison.
These are:
Any toiletries, perfume, make-up;
Any hoodies, vest tops or baseball caps;
Any belts thicker than or with a buckle bigger than 2.5 cm.
Most prisoners tend to wear track suits, casual trousers or jeans. If you are going to bring some clothes in, you need to check that they are machine washable.
Toiletries including sanitary towels are provided by the prison. Make-up can be ordered.
Some things you might like to pack would be:
A watch (not programmable);
Underwear
Cash - £20 would be enough to get you started.
Address book with the telephone numbers and addresses of your family and friends.
Footwear: you can take in trainers, slippers and some people bring flip flops for the shower.
It is better to check with the prison exactly what you can/cannot bring with you.
What about money?
There is no limit on the amount of money you can bring into prison when you are first arrive. This money will be paid into a personal account; you will not hold money. You can spend money on phone credits or in the prison shop. You will also be able to earn some money when in prison. Visitors can also leave you in up to £70 in cash at each visit and they can also bring you clothes and other items like paperback books.

I do not believe he got two A felonies for drug dealing to a cop.
Class A felony is the most serious offense out there. The sentence is either life in prison or death penalty.
I think you got confused the facts and he got really a D or E felony or something like that.

While you don't have an answer for everyone else or your brother, I am very proud that you are doing great. To look at the fact, I will say yes, he is in the bad place. BUT, look again, I think he is in a good place. If he still out there, he might get kill faster than in jail. Maybe he will grow up afterward of be in jail for awhile. Don't worry too much about him if you can't do anything to help him. Keep be a good person like you are now. Sometime the problem will take care itself.

The answer depends an what state or country you are talking about, so ignore any specific answers. If this is a first offense, he may get into a diversion program. If he is not a user, that may actually count against him. If he is an addict himself, diversion seems more likely, unless he has a juvenile record.

It sounds like your brother needs a wake up call. This might
be what he needs. The more time he gets the better his
chance of straightening up. For his sake Dont try to help him
He needs to learn the hard way.

It depends on if he is a minor or not, criminal history, and how good a lawyer he can afford, but I would say he could very well do a minimum of 4 yrs. in prison

Steer clear of this troublemaker. You'd be surprised how readily someone like this will drag down everybody around him.

maybe you better ask a lawyer. for all we know, your brother could be good friends with the prosecutor. ......and maybe he has a prior record. no one can give you a correct answer. also, statutes vary state to state.
