Which of the following is worse:

A. Not believing in God/Jesus and being honest about it
B. Believing in God/Jesus but denying that you believe
C. Not believing in God/Jesus but claiming/lying that you do believe

Many Christians may have an opinion as to which of the above is worse but I am more interested to know if there is a Biblical answer to this question.

Options A and C are the options of a non believer. We can either be honest about the fact that we do not believe or we can lie about it. Which is worse? Or it worse to be a believer and deny that you believe?

If one is Christian, or even claims to be, she should put honesty and sincerity above everything else.

If you accepts that, that bearing false witness is a primary sin, then that means options B and C are equal. It's not about content, it is about thoughts and actions. In both cases an individual believes one idea and then lies about it, stating the opposite.

Person A is genuine and honest. She does not believe and says so. From an ethical perspective, this is an honest person, and, ironically from your perspective, the most Christian of the bunch.

If a person can live a lie like the one stated in either B or C, that person can also lie about a great many more things--love, fidelity and bank balances. I'd choose A over the other two any day--they are legitimate, while the other two are frauds.

First of all, who cares what any of us think? We aren't supposed to judge others, right?
But since you asked, my non counting opinion is that I think someone who believes but claims not to is the worst. If you don't believe then you haven't accepted God /Jesus and therefor you really don't know any better. So if you don't believe and you're honest about it, Id say thats the best of the three. Then the non believer who lies, again they don't know any better, but they don't want to be judged (like they are being in these answers). And again the worst is the supposed believer who would claim to accept God/Jesus, but then deny Him when it served his/her purpose.
I believe this is the way it would be viewed biblically. Of course this is only my view and as I said it really doesn't count. To each their own.

Jesus said if you're neither hot nor cold, he's going to 'spit you out' of His mouth. He also said if you deny Him before man, he'll deny you before his Father. People who lie that they DO believe are in a bit of a pickle because claiming you believe doesn't mean anything to God, which is the guy you're accountable to! At least people who are honest about NOT believing aren't going about misrepresenting Jesus. Sin is sin. You're either forgiven for sin and in relationship with God or you're not... And that's really all that matters.

As far as any religion goes its an all or nothing thing; you can't sit on the fence and lean whichever the way the wind blows. Those who are devout believe what they believe and do not bend to things like peer pressure or fear. I personally follow choice "A" but as far as Christianity is concerned "B" and "C" are the worst. People who choose "A" just haven't been "saved" yet. But those who choose the other two either lie to themselves or to God. In either case you might as well choose A because you're going to hell!...if you believe in that sort of thing.

A. Rational and honest

B. Delusional and dishonest

C. Rational and dishonest

I think being rational and dishonest is the worst... unless being 'honest' means that you were apt to suffer consequences such as being burned at the stake, chucked into a vat of boiling oil, stoned to death, tortured or imprisoned, or some other form of gentle 'christian' persuation. In such circumstances honesty is highly overrated.

Don H... "Judge not, lest ye be judged" is NOT a command not to judge people... it is practical advice... an admonition against 'hypocritical judgement'. Perhaps it would be helpful if I translate this into a language that you can understand...

Jesus: "Lookee here, Buckwheat... if you're gonna go around flappin' your gums an' judgin' folks, don't be surprised if they turn around and judge you right back... 'cause you'll danged-well deserve it."

I think that all Christians go through all the ABC choices you’ve put forth here one way or another. For the Biblical answers: A - Luk 18:8 I say to you that He will carry out the avengement of them speedily. But the Son of Man coming then, will He find faith on the earth?
B - Mat 10:33 But he that shall deny me before men, I will also deny him before my Father who is in heaven. C - Mar 9:38-40 And John answered Him, saying, Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, who does not follow us. And we forbade him, because he does not follow us. But Jesus said, Do not forbid him. For there is no one who shall do a work of power in My name, yet be able to speak evil of Me quickly. For who is not against us is for us.

Thinking logically as an Atheist and knowing a few things about the bible, I would think there would be an option D for you people. Wouldn't someone who believes that your god exists yet does not worship your god and worships your bible's so called Satan be the worst?

I am an atheist, but it is obviously choice C. because you are lying, and lying is a sin. Most atheists actually choose C. because they religious think that atheists are actually the worst thing for America.

"Based on a telephone survey of more than 2,000 households and in-depth interviews with more than 140 people, researchers found that Americans rate atheists below Muslims, recent immigrants, homosexuals and other groups as "sharing their vision of American society." Americans are also least willing to let their children marry atheists."

Sad right? That's what religious bullies do to you sometimes.

Your question lacks one perspective and that is many people do not equate God and Jesus as one in the same.
Many people believe in God.
