Scary-ism.

I saw him on TV last night and just shuddered. He gives whatever denomination he represents a bad name. I'm not a fan of televangelists.

Edit: David K, I don't know if his face screams "Jewish", but to me he looks just like Martin Short (who isn't Jewish, though).

Joel's father John was a Southern Baptist Preacher, but left that denomination in 1959 to form his own independent community church. Joel has no formal training. He attended Oral Roberts University for one semester, but dropped out and returned to his father's church (Lakewood). He had preached one time the week before his father died in 1999, and had no other experience as a pastor or preacher prior to that time. Nevertheless, he succeeded his father as the pastor of Lakewood Church, and now heads up the non-denominational movement that basically claims that God wants you to be wealthy and comfortable here on earth if you're a Christian.

This is a very comforting and attractive thought to many people, but unfortunately, it is not consistent with the Word of God. I think Joel Osteen is doing the world a huge disservice by promoting the teachings he's teaching.

I attended one of his church services, and it seemed to me that the service sounded like a Pentacostal church. At the end of the service he asked people to come to the front of the church if they wanted to be prayed for. Many people responded. The part of this that I didn't like was that he put his hands on people's heads as if he was blessing them. Since he is only human he doesn't have that power.

No, he's a nutjob. Listen to the man speak. And is it just me or does his face/hair just scream "jewish"? (this is coming from a Jew).
Edit: Haha, you know what? I actually see that! Almost a dead ringer.
