Well, since the Bible is God's inspired book for us, it's best to see what it says about the matter. The Bible says that you should only pray to God and not to anyone else and that you should present the prayer through Jesus Christ as a mediator. It never says anything about praying to Mary or any other saint. Is the veneration of images of Mary in harmony with Bible Christianity? The practice was definitely encouraged by Vatican II (1962-1965). “This most holy Synod . . . admonishes all the sons of the Church that the cult, especially the liturgical cult, of the Blessed Virgin, be generously fostered. It charges that practices and exercises of devotion toward her be treasured as recommended by the teaching authority of the Church in the course of centuries, and that those decrees issued in earlier times regarding the veneration of images of Christ, the Blessed Virgin, and the saints, be religiously observed.”—The Documents of Vatican II, pp. 94, 95. So, as you can see, there are no scriptures to back up this practice, simply a statement from the Vatican. So this is a church teaching, not a bible teaching. Says Catholic priest Andrew Greeley: “Mary is one of the most powerful religious symbols in the history of the Western world . . . The Mary symbol links Christianity directly to the ancient religions of mother goddesses.”—The Making of the Popes 1978 (U.S.A., 1979), p. 227.

If you're really serious, then praying to God is the most important conversations you can have with someone who created you and, amazingly, cares about you. He's the one person who's never too busy to listen to you - can listen to you for hours on end - till you shut down the conversation and is never offended when you do. Then He's ever ready to lend you His ear once again when you want to talk again. Like a true friend you can talk to Him when you're sad, when you're distressed, when you're happy, when you just want to talk to someone. How often have we thought of dropping in on a close friend, just like that, for no particular reason, just to say hello and you change your mind because he switched off his phone, is working late, is in a meeting - whatever. But God the Creator of everything deigns to listen to us mere creatures! Have you tried talking to Him. Please do. I guarantee - a splendid surprise awaits you.

prayer is not a necessity, its a self retrospecting act which help us know not only what we are but also what we want to become. it needs no motivation, even if u r in a bar u can pray all u need is faith...so one cannot just have one reason to pray, he can even pray to xpress pain, pleasure, or even hatred!

Prayer is simply communictaion between you and God. Do you talk to those you love? If you love God, then why would you not talk to him on a daily basis? Prayer is not a wishlist to get from God, but to see what is on his heart, to tell you your concerns worries, etc.

Praying is our way of talking to our Heavenly Father. Don't you talk to your Earthly Father?
When I face trials, he is with me. He gives me the courage to fight the trial. When I face problems, He comforts me! When I face loss, He provides for me! When someone I know is ill I ask him to heal them and He does. In the End when I will face Death, He will carry me Home. Why not talk to him?
