I'm not asking if you think it's right or righteous, or sanctioned by Christ, just if we should get rid of the anti-prostitution lawas.

I'm asking this in the religious section, because I'm pretty sure that it was religious people who made the anti-prostitution laws in the first place.

Firstly it would prevent the type of abuse that these women endure... Unlike a lot of crimes (including drugs), sleeping with a lot of people in a safe way is less dangerous than supported activites such as boxing, rock climbing and paraglyding

The reason it will not become legal is because there is too much of a cultural negativity that paying for sex is immoral.

Putting a prostitue on the street hurts the woman, hurts the areas image, hurts the crime level (as people who control prostitutes often contribute to other criminal activities) and hurts the economy (their pay isn't taxable!!)

Prostitution is the 2nd oldest profession in the world but is still considered more immoral than the first (theft)

I think so. But then I'm not "religious."

It's not called the oldest profession for nothing. It's always been around and it always will be. If you look at the way Amsterdam handles it, prostitution is taxed and regulated. All the prostitutes are screened for STDs, etc. And very few native Dutch actually use the "services." It's only the tourists, who are coming from a more repressed environment and freak out when they find themselves in a place where things are actually allowed.

As for the people who say legalizing prostitution would "spread AIDS and immorality" - think about it. Would you use a prostitute now? No? Then what makes you think you'd start if it was legal? I simply don't believe the illegality of things like prostitution or drugs is what prevents people from doing them.

Let me put it this way: do you think voluntary slavery should be legal? Let's put the sin of it aside for a moment. The abuses which so easily result from selling yourself to someone should be apparent. Slavery, in se, is not morally illicit given the right circumstances--viz. the exchange of room and board for services rendered, bound by a lifelong contract. But the abuses which would arise from this setup without constant supervision by the government are so obvious, that the best thing to do was to eliminate slavery entirely.

Let's consider prostitution. How long can the servicee rent the servicer? 10 minutes? 40? A day? A year? Why would we allow one person to use another for their pleasure? How is this not an assault on the dignity of both parties? I know that this happens sometimes in marriage, but at least it has the public appearance of being a loving relationship. Really, if I was to put it pithily, "It's the principle of the thing!"

This is just my first impression; I've not had much time to sit and think about this, because this is the first time the subject's been broached to me.

Yes I think it should be legal. I'd file it under "goods and services". The government could regulate it make sure that people who provide these services are clean and disease free and I am sure if they could tax said services everything would be right as rain! I think it would also help boost the economy. However you like to think of it or phrase it men are paying for "poon" anyway by wining, dining, and gift buying in hopes of getting sex that is not guaranteed! Ladies how many times have you "put out" and the guy was so terrible you were like "Damn I should of ordered the Lobster!" LOL! Ladies we are sitting on a gold mine here, why are we giving it away for free? Men I don't want to leave you out either you are free capitalize on your bodies as well if prostitution was legalized so bottoms up boys!!

Yes.
1. The scriptures have been wrongly divided by many in America.
2. I would like to see a comparison statistically, of countries (per 1000 people or whatever) with it, and without it verses the rapes in that country. I presently would guess, the countries with prostitution have lower (not eliminated) rapes than countries without it.

yeah...it was us...

along with anti-murder, anti-theft and a few other things we're anti on....

who really thinks prostitution is a victimless crime? Her self-esteem is trashed...(ok..maybe that will change when society doesn't condemn her profession)...

And what about her children? Will they wonder about their biological father? suffer the taunts of peers?

And what about the panderer? Isn't his view of women reduced to "meat for rent", and aren't we as a society then advocating a cheapening of womanhood? What about his wife? does she not suffer?

And this is assuming disease stays 110% out of the picture...because then the victim number rises exponentially.

EW no. People should not be allowed to have a career in a very undignified way and despite whether you are religious or not, prostitution can lead to the spread of diseases e.g. aids etc etc. Its for everyone's safety.

Yes, it should be. It's going to happen anyway - people want sex, and if they can't get any usually, they are willing to pay. If prostitution was properly controlled, it would help prevent unwanted pregnancies and STD's.

do you want your wife, sister, daughter or your mom being a prostitute??

it brings disease and sadness, it destroy families and it brings unwanted babies in this world.. do you really want that?

if you want it to be legal, you should know the risk, if it's good for you, doesnt mean that it's good for other people
