Paternity leave is based on your individual company. Some companies do not offer anything and require you to take vacation or sick time. If you have been at your company more than a year you are eligible for FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act). You are allowed to take up to three months off UNPAID to deal with a sick family member or a newborn child. If you are interested in that, your HR contact should be able to help you out with filing the necessary paperwork.

It depends on the company you work for, but as far as I know the parents can only take 1week simultaneous leave the week following the birth and then the father can take paternity leave if the mother isn't on maternity leave and vice versa. Some companies let you have more than 1 week simulataneous leave but not many. You can usually take paternity leave anytime in the first 12mths. So mum takes the first 6mths dad takes the next 6mths.

hope that helps.

Some states offer paid paternity leave for the fathers of the new babies. I know NJ does. Pa does not.
Check with your human resources department.

it depends on the job.. alot of jobs dont have paternity leave... but if the father has saved up sick and vacation time (like my boyfriend did) he will be able to take off at least a week or so to help take care of the baby while the mother is healing.

Do you mean FMLA? or paid time off of work... FMLA is just job protection and we would need to know what state you live in.
