The older EITHER parent is, the higher the risk. The sperm of men over 35 have more abnormal mutations then the sperm of younger men, so there is a higher risk for problems.

I don't think the increased risk should cause someone over 30 who wants to conceive not to. It just means you need to be aware that the risks exist. Even if the risk is increased, it may only be 1 in 1,000 (not an accurate ratio, just using as an example.)

that is curious... I have two friends with autistic children - one was 22, one was a right around 30. My friend who was 22 has a sister with an autistic child. The sister was over 40 when her son was born, I think. They have very similar forms, and doctors suspect that there may be a genetic link.

NO. This is just a load of BULLSH*T! Doctors amd researchers do not know what the cause is so they are just grasping at straws. My husband was 43 and I was 34 when our son was born and no problems what so ever. I am a nanny for a 7 year-old and his mom was in her 20's when he was born and he is autistic and SEVERE ADHD. I know several other couples that have children later in life and their kids are fine. All the people that I know with kids that are autistic are in their 20's.

cutting-edge records recommend that the prospect of having a toddler with autism if the organic and organic father and mom already have one toddler with autism is a minimum of a million/20. This value could be an underestimate, on condition that many families with one autistic toddler will end having little ones by way of rigidity or the phobia of having yet another toddler with the illness.

I'd like to know where you have seen this proven. No, being an older parent doesn't increase your risk of having an autistic child.
Please add a link to where you've found this info.

Over 30? Not really, I think the risk goes up over 40.

I think the odds aren't as great as if you are under 30-35. My girlfriend was 32 with her first and she's fine but she was 33 with the 2nd and he has mild autism. She's gutted and thought it was her fault at first, but it can happen to anyone. You just have to deal with it.
