The UK home office defines terrorist acts as:
"Any act committed,or the threat of action, designed to influence a government or intimidate the public and made for the purposes of advancing a political, religious or ideological cause and that involves serious violence against a person; that may endanger another person’s life; creates a serious risk to the health or safety of the public; involves serious damage to property; is designed to seriously disrupt or interfere with an electronic system."
During World War 2, some German pastors, including Dietrich Bonhoeffer, were part of a plot to kill Hitler using a bomb in a briefcase. The bomb failed to kill Hitler and the plotters were killed by the Nazis. What the bomb plotters did was surely, by modern definitions, a terrorist act. Is terrorism ever justifiable?

To those who say it is OK for "good guys" to kill the "bad guys", or its OK because Hitler was a bad guy, who decides who is good or bad? If you ask the "bad guys", they will say they are the good guys and the ones you call good guys are the bad guys. Everybody thinks they are the "good guys", and as long as people think it is OK for good guys to kill bad guys, there will be terrorists and terrorist acts.

If you say "terrorists kill innocent people", that makes the "Coalition of the Willing" bigger terrorists than Al Qaeda, since the violence they perpetrated in Iraq, Afganistan and Somalia has killed more innocent civilians than 9/11 and 7/7.

RE: Hail Satan's answer: By advocating that anyone who does not agree with banning religion should be executed you show that you have a similar mentality to Hitler.

The bomb plotters have been praised, and a Tom Cruise film is being made about it - is this glorifying terrorism?

These people need to read your details.

Youve really just identified the true problem with terrorism-it is considered to be a legitimate strategy as long as its your side using it because you never call it terrorism.

By that the RAF and Army Air Corp tactics of terror bombing during WWII count as terrorism (its even got Terror worked into the name!)

Actually, pretty much any military action fits that definition of terrorism.

NEVER!!! You do not force your religion or ideas to anyone especially with the use of violence that would endanger those who are not involved, if you want to make change THAT bad you should try to talk to the people who could actually make that change, coz the people you will be blowing up could not do anything

oh and the plot against Hitler is not terrorism coz the resistance already made their stance and took the action further and no one in that room was innocent

How can Christians think it is justifiable?
They are the reason for the wars in the first place.Religion should be banned and all the people that don't like it should be taken out the back and court martial-ed.( Get executed). The world would be a much happier place without religion. The murders that always happen are religious people saying God told me to do it.Religion is evil and it is very very controlling. Did you also know that the crucifixion story was exaggerated to keep everyone under control by the governments. And abortion is also an excuse to keep the argument going. They are all evil period.

All acts in destruction of life are done by persons who do not know who they are.2000 years of murder in the name of one or another idea has left the humanity with a perverted understanding that it is OK to kill as long as it is for some "noble cause". You cannot kill "Life".you can only shorten the person's physical experience on this planet.
The murderer and the murdered are at peace with each other when both are in the spiritual realm.
The god which has been invented to justify people's actions is no longer capable of providing peace, joy and happiness which we so much desire.
The sanctity of "Life" is the greatest value. Anything that denies that ,is not , what you would call, of God, God which is unconditionally loving, nonjudgmental, noncondeming and non punishing,God which is needless and is not to be served but is the greatest Servant of all of Life.
You cannot contemplate "terrorism" in the realm of such God.
It will not exist because Life will not sustain such idea in the minds of people.Humanity is so primitive that it may take another 1000 years to learn that killing will not solve anything.

Terrorists kill innocent people, but all the same no one has the right to kill. This is a mortal sin. What can happen if we will not stop terrorists, can you imaging it ? We must to defend all those who can't defend themselves. We must defend our relatives, our friends, our countrymen and not to allow to kill people at all. Including bandit killers. Many people become accustomed to murders and count it as necessary evil. It is atrocity even to think so. We must to cry out to stop terrorism. Acquitting the guilty and condemning the innocent, the Lord detests them both.

Sounds like that definition could be made to cover any war let alone terrorism. Don't forget that well worn phrase 'one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter'. Ain't no sorting this one out by the Bible or any other book.

Terrorism was invented by Israel to control and manipulate Americans through domination of U.S. media. 9/11 was perpetrated by Israel to demonize Muslims and justify two major wars.

Big T,
Such an act always puts others at risk and such an act is NEVER justifyable. We are not to harm others in such a manner. This is murder and that is NEVER right in the EYES of GOD. HE expects HIS CHILDREN to act as HE describes them.
Thanks,
Eds
