I am single and thinking of moving to manhattan for a job. Is a salary of 130K enough to live comfortably in manhattan?

Depends on what you mean by comfortably. In Manhattan, you will have to pay Federal, State and City income tax. Even a modest apartment will be around 4k per month. If you wish to have a car parking will be a real problem. Rental for a parking space is prohibitive.

Living in Manhattan requires a specific mind set. Most people who live there love it. Most who don't would rather live anywhere else. I recommend that you travel to Manhattan and just see what the morning rush is like. I hated it and couldn't wait to leave my job there. I moved to New Jersey for less money and a much higher living standard.

Ps. Many people who work in Manhattan live in New Jersey or Long Island or the outlying boroughs.

Honestly, it depends where you want to live in Manhattan and what you want your lifestyle to be. If you don't need to have the top of line apartment and are staying home some nights in a week and cooking your own meals..then sure that is more than enough..

But if you want go out to clubs and get bottles every night and have an apartment will all the ideal conditions than you might be a bit short.

Good Luck !!! :)
