By simply reading the bible you should be able to determine that it is full of mythical and obviously fictional stories. The only miracle I can see is the way people cling to it as the actual words of our creator.

Below is a link for a good list of 61 reasons why the bible should be taken in with caution

I believe the Bible is a trustworthy source for a number of reasons.

1. The scholars who have translated and transmitted it over many centuries (even millenia) have had to work with incredible standards of perfection in their work: every word counted, every stanza in place, triple-checks from multiple scholars to prevent any one "school" of thought from deliberately influencing the text, all to maintain the purity of the message. This is true of the Jewish scholars who kept the ancient Torah and passed it along, as well as our modern-day scholars.

2. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of ancient copies of original language texts (scrolls) to compare the modern-day versions against. The comparisons show that NOTHING HAS BEEN ALTERED, or at least, nothing that would alter doctrine. A mis-placed "." hardly constitutes a textural alteration in my mind!

3. The authors of most of the Bible's books were eyewitnesses, or had access to, eyewitnesses of the stories contained in the books.

4. Many of the Bible books authors were tortured to death for refusing to renege on their faith (and what they had written). Faithfulness like that is worth noticing: WHY were they so willing to die for this, if it isn't true? Since when is a lie so inspiring, that people are willing to die for it? And not just one person, but a whooooooooole lot of people, over many centuries? This cannot be dismissed as a simple case of mental illness, especially not when the faith crosses many boundries: gender, language, time, age, and race.

5. The text itself is self-supporting. That is, the entire text doesn't contradict itself. Consider this: the entire Bible was composed over many different centuries, by many different authors, and yet there is an internal AGREEMENT throughout the whole collection (on the will of God and the salvation of Christ offered to mankind). What are the odds of that being a deliberate forgery?

6. Bottom line is: I believe we can trust God to have left us some sort of record of His own activities among humanity. Yes, in the end, it all boils down to faith.

7. Faith in Christ (as found in the Bible) has changed my life. It affects how I live with my family, how I perform at my job, and how I plan for the future. There is a constant demand for excellence, tempered and inspired by love, in the Christian life. While I don't always live up to those expectations, I am continuosly encouraged to try.

Ask Jesus Christ to forgive me of my sins. Ask God to have mercy upon me when I die. I live peacefully, loving my neighbor and worshiping God. All according to the Bible way.
