try the library they usually have a lot of stuff on WW2.
in my local library they got a whole disk with tons of information on everyone who went to fight in WW2.
they should have book and stuff to maybe you grandfather is in one.
you can try friend reunited maybe someone from your grandfather regiment is one there and can give lots of info about him

Go on the british army site, and fill in a form, they will reply giving you the address and cost to send to.
You have to pay for them to do a search and it takes 3 months to get an answer. You can clain any unclaimed medals as well if you are the next of kin

Try the Armys' Freedom Of Information pages,. listed below. I asked for details about my grandfather, got a reply back in a week or so telling me how to actually get the details. Good stuff it is too!

Try to find out about his regement! Regements have museum collections of plunder and captured standards - a veteran is usually the curator and very likely knows someone who was in the reg. in the war!

go to the wartime memories, on the internet through google, i found loads of info for my dad,
who was in the ww11 and photos of him and it gives you addresses whom you can contact and its all free, exellent stories and pow camps, and stories of how they were treated in pow,s good luck. if you need any more on this site let me know.
