Too much alcohol stimulates the vomiting center of your brain to make you chuck. Being a kid like yourself a decade aor so ago, I remember how cool it was to be the dude who could drink the most at the party. Though I rarely was, which is the sick thing about that tolerance game. The answer to your question is YES, the more you practice drinking the higher you tolerance to it's effects will become. My advice is eat before you drink (to prevent dry heaving which blows) and drink a little less until you figure out that sweet point where you must stop or you will throw up. This is the perfect drunk, you can be ignorant, but not embarassing. With more experience you will be able to feel that point like it's your freakin job and you just stop drinking. Ignore all the folks calling you silly, we all do it, and we all regret it the next day.

I was in the same boat as you, but with perserverance you will learn to tolerate the alcohol - or you will become an alcoholic, which is far worse. Try pacing your drinks with water or soda and eat a little food, like pretzels or nuts or fruit - but not too much. You are 18 and that is so young to try to keep up with other drinking buddies; there are all kinds of buddies out there for you to know!
Certain cultures and ethnicities: Native American, Irish, Japanese, Jews have a difficult time handling booze, in part because of a missing gene (many of these groups did not spend thousands of years around the Mediterranean Sea getting used to the grape!).
Never smoke marijuana after you've been drinking if you do that sort of thing (I don't judge people), because it can make you dry heave all night long!
When you get really drunk you become very vulnerable to others and to situations. You can easily fall down a flight of stairs and break your shoulder; you can be taken advantage of; and you can be robbed and beaten. Getting very drunk at so young an age is liberating, but so is skateboarding, singing, writing a play or climbing mountains.
Getting drunk is a "safe" way to get closer to friends, especially of the same sex, without the mandated taboo against close friendships between guys or girls.
You can also ask someone to videotape you very drunk and watch the tape when you aren't. There's nothing more sobering than that!
My best to you!

RE:
Throwing up when drunk?
Whenever I get really drunk, I always throw up. I know this is normal for some people, but it's really embarrassing because all my friends think I'm weak and can't handle alcohol. Is it just some people do and some people don't or is there a way to prevent it? I'm only 18 so I...

A few things can cause vomiting after drinking... Here are a few things I thought of: - Drinking heavily (beyond your limit) - Drinking HARD alcohol as opposed to beer or more 'girly' drinks - Eating greasy foods before drinking - Having a very full stomach before drinking - Having an empty stomach before drinking - Chugging a lot of liquid at once (beer bongs, shotguns, keg stands) - Mixing alcohol and pot - Going on winding roads, rollercoasters - Ridiculously hot days - Beer before liquor, couldn't be sicker! Drink responsibly, on an even stomach with a lot of starch/carbs and you'll be fine. Never give in to peer pressure when considering drinking, do everything on your own pace and alcohol content. Wait a little while in between drinks and NEVER operate a car while under the influence.

Alcohol is a poison, and if you are throwing up that means that your body can't handle it and it needs to get rid of it. You body is trying to protect itself from damage. If you are throwing up you are drinking too much and need to stop before you cause permanent damage. If you train you body not to throw up, like some people, you could kill yourself from alcohol poisoning. It does happen and it is not a myth.
If it looks like you are a lightweight, it might be because you body is not ready. You are not finished developing physically. That is one of the reasons that most of the country has a minimum age of 21 for drinking. This could be very bad for you.
Also, if you are drinking till you throw up, you are not being responsible. People who are older don't drink to get hammered. Around 22 you will realize that the people who get really drunk just look like idiots. We have a couple of drinks, and the fun comes from us, not the alcohol.

By building up your tolerance you should be able to hold down more liquor over time. I would seriously advise against this though, I am 27 weigh 140 lbs. and can drink about 18-24 beers in a night, a little less if I mix in hard liquor. Definitely not something to be proud of, try just drinking enough to catch a buzz and still enjoy yourself. Your not impressing anyone and are destroying your insides.

maybe you should wait until you're legal drinking age before you drink that much (if you're in the US)
Otherwise maybe don't drink so much. Maybe it will get better for you as you get older maybe not. But your body obviously doesn't want as much alcohol as you drink at one time. The point in drinking is to enjoy the alcohol and the company not to get drunk and/or drink too much and throw-up. That's just a waste of booze

Drinking is one of the favourites from the old times. But as days pass by, ppl does'nt understand its usefulness, its uselessness and drinking limitations and thereby, make a fit and throws out of it. Weak people or people who drinks sometimes always do that. Never worry. One day you can control yourself and prevent, but not your habit of drinking. It takes sometime for you to be able to control as you get older, say 24 or 25 above.
