Having a bum wrist doesn't necessarily disqualify you from your job. However, depending on what he does in the infantry, he may need to re-class. If he is unable to do what he needs to do he'll be offered a re-class. He also may have the option of getting out, but that will take some time. There are plenty of jobs that he can do if his ASVAB score is high enough.
If he wants to stay in but can't do his job, he'll most certainly want to reclass. If he can't do his job but doesn't want to reclass, he can opt for a medical board and chances are he'll get it.
Depending on his rank - if he is an officer or E-5 and above he may be able to get a desk position but he may be disqualified for deployments under that MOS.

Once the medical recovery is complete if there is any serious restriction he will have to go to a Medical Review Board.
That board will look at his job requirements and the physical limitations he faces and decide if he stays on as an Infantryman, is given a chance to reclas to something else or if he needs to be medically retired.
I doubt they will put him out... we have Soldiers missing parts who have found useful things to do for the Nation.
Reclass is a real possiblity - esp if it is his firing hand (is he right / left handed?). But you cannot know until the board meets and hears what both the doctors and your husband has to say.
Regardless of how it turns out, keep personal copies of all the surgical reports, an x-ray, and recovery notes. He will need them to apply for VA benefits whenever he does leave service.
Good Luck and God Bless!

You can medical reclass if on permanent profile. Getting discharged is highly unlikely because it is the wrist but this depends on the amount of time he has been in service. 10% chance? I know soldiers who had their scaphiods fixed using a piece of their hip bones. They both made full recovery and were able to do do push ups. Be optimistic.

good gravy how badly was it broken? is it shattered?! Ouch.
if he fails to recover, he will most likely be MedBoarded out, probably with a small percentage of disability.
