Hello!

I have had a skin tag on the underneath of my arm for many years, however it rubbed against my t-shirt today and it hurt (this is the first time it has ever hurt) I looked at the tag and it appears to have filled with blood?
Is this serious? I've looked them up on the internet before but they never seemed to be anything to worry about and I thought i'd get around to having it removed one day - but now as it has filled with blood and is painful I am a little concerened.

Thanks in advance
Ally x

Irritated skin tags are often removed for comfort. If it in an area that is rubbed by clothing this would be one which should be removed.

At the clinic this is accomplished by freezing the skin tag with liquid nitrogen. It is an uncomfortable procedure, but results in no long term pain or problems.

As far as the tag which is currently irritated, it should be fine, but as it is irritated watch for signs of spreading inflammation, if seen see the doctor. Many times after filling with blood like yours has the tags will just fall off due to the tissue damage following the trauma. If so just apply pressure with a gauze pad for a few minutes and then apply a plaster with some antibiotic ointment.

This will resolve.

If it doesn't fall off on it's own after this, get it removed.

If you are worried see the doctor!!! Best to be safe.
I have numerous skin tags, some rather large, saw my doctor and he said he doesn't remove them you have to tie cotton really tight around them and then they will drop off in a day or so.

Also can I point out to one of the answers that skin tags are not acne, lol.

Skin tags are just excess skin. I had a brown/ black one once and I just cut it off haha. I'm sure it probably was just a one off thing, don't worry about it bodies are weird machines.
