I know this lonely guy from a cafe, who's a schizophrenic, he's about 45 yrs. old, & when I mention computers or the internet, he goes; SO WHAT!-I don't give a f*ck about them! they suck! (I doubt he's ever used one).

I am a schizophrenic paranoid (DDD) who is answering you via computer. I resent the slang use of the term "schizo"! There are many types of schizophrenia, it is a spectrum of disorders. It is normal for any person to not want to use the computer. I had a driver's licence when young (even an international driver's licence) but haven't had one for over 40 years since being diagnosed as schizophrenic. Is that bad? I don't contribute to a lot of bad things like, congestion, drive by shootings, smog, air-pollution and global warming.

Good luck with your computer (remember, you will never make everyone the same as you, accept and enjoy diversity), good health, peace and love!

I prefer the more sensitive term "person with schizophrenia" to "schizo". Some people with schizophrenia may be reluctant to use computers for a few reasons. Many have delusions directly related to computers and other electronic devises. They may believe, for instance, that the computer is taking private thoughts out of their heads and broadcasting them over the Internet or that the computer is inserting thoughts into their minds or people are watching them through the computer. Also some people with schizophrenia have cognitive impairments. They may be confused by or not understand how to work a computer so they become frustrated by them.

Not that it's an appropriate way to address people, but yes, it's perfectly understandable that some "schizos" may not want to use computers. Their perception of reality isn't quite right, and they may take issue with the lack of security with the internet. Even a perfectly rational person should be concerned about giving out personal information via the internet, nevermind someone prone to paranoid fantasies.
