Maybe you should say whether this comment from the girl is in reaction to anything. If the girl says it herself (without first hearing that the guy likes her), she is probably more likely of having meant it.
Either way, I think they mean it though, unless maybe they communicate with the guy often and are a bit wild.

Yes, I did because it's the right thing to do. Though I really like him as he has the qualities of the boyfriend I wish to have but deep inside I know I didn't love him. I don't want to be unfair to him and to myself.

Yes, I've said it but that was only because I thought that was what he wanted.
But I've also said it and meant it.

well ofcourse! liking someone donts imply you have to go out with him! depends on the kind of liking really!
like the way iam right now, i would like to hang out with someone whose looking for a long term commitment. so if i like someone who is not keen on such things, i wouldnt really go out with him.
