Or are they all about deprivation and praying. I just feel bad that there seems to be no joy in Islam. Maybe I'm wrong.

Come to think of it,
..... a few years ago, I was sitting on the bus driven by a Muslim driver. A group of about 7 girls with hijabs got on & all of them said, "Salam Allahkoom" to the driver & he responded. They had to stand because all the seats were taken but they talked so excitedly & laughed & giggled. They made the whole bus laugh at their mood! Finally, I was getting off the bus & I said, "What are you girls all so happy about? Isn't it Ramadan? Shouldn't you all be starving with your tongues hanging to the floor? Starvation doesn't make ME giggle!"
They all burst out laughing & said simultaneously, "EID!"
I laughed & said, "Well, Eid to you too!"
They all giggled hysterically at that! Then one girl said, "It is true, we have had no food all day. But now we go home to eat LOTS of food & have big celebrations!"
I answered, "Well, if there's any baklava being served, I can understand your excitement!"
LOL
The innocence & gleeful joy of youth.

Eid-ul-Fitr is a great day of rejoicing. I am not a Muslim but I have shared with Muslim friends and they certainly have a lot of fun! A good time to get to know any Muslim neighbours.

After the fasting month is over, we celebrate Eid-UL-Fitr. We start by listening to a sermon and then praying for 5 minutes. After that, it's all fun. Visiting neighbors house and stuff. Going out with friends and stuff. "No Joy in Islam"? We are humans just like the rest of you dude. Maybe u say this because we pray 5 times a day. But let me tell you, one prayer only lasts an average 5 minutes. That's like 30 minutes a day for GOD. The time we spend praying to GOD in one week is the same amount of time Christians spend in Church on one Sunday. Anyways, I think u r an atheist. PEACE!

Depends on what you call fun. Yes muslims come together and celebrate on specific as well as random times. But fun is very subjective. A disciplined person may have a great time playing chess, while someone may consider it the most boring game ever. But there are many festivities, just none including getting wasted or sleeping with your "homie's" girl because you were both high. Other than that, many sport events are on the table. Its responsible fun- the kind you can actually remember the day after without even a hangover or a blood test.

Eid. At the end of ramadan muslims have a big feast and go visit their family and friends as well as giving gifts to younger ones.

This is after one month of fasting and on Eid muslims are required to give enough charity to provide enough food for a large family. About US$50

Saying that you enjoy food after a fast is like saying you like how your feet feel after you've worn small shoes. When your religion makes you suffer all the time then, yes, anything else feels like a celebration. Muslims should try a little humor and fun in their lives. It might help them get along better with others.

I am not muslim, but i have muslim friends, with whom i have passed holidays also, and they have visited my country without any problem...I havent seen something different from what we do the christians...They drink also alcoho, except fo the very religious, and they are human biengs with the same needs as we are...Why we have always to distinguish and to discriminate people according to their religion?
Have yoj seen religiously fanatic christians?
As they have Ramadan, we also fest 40 days before Easter, and i can assure you i have some friends who dont eat oil on wednesday and friday, and they wait midnight to eat something in order to wait the day to change...I have friends who bend down to pray also christians, and a friend of mine is so religious, that she is ashamed to go even to a male doctor...Needless to say that she belongs to the old orthodox calendar and she goes to the churches who belong to this calendar covered...
So, i dont think that it has to do with the religion..It is something private, to prive yourself from something it is up to you and to your consciousness, but i can assure you that to pray or to respect some rules in every religion doesnt mean that as a human being you dont have to live your life...
I am speaking objectively, as a non believer person...

What do you mean by 'Fun' holidays??? All holidays are fun... It all depends on how you look at it... There is joy and happiness... Anyway, different country may have different way of celebrating holidays.. In my country, it is always a fun affair with gatherings and great food and simply enjoying life.... We also have bazaars and visits to family and friends' homes to share the celebrations...
