I would not advise vaseline, try something that will not harm them if they lick it like cooking oil.

Vasoline probably isn't the best thing to use, but if you've already done it I don't think it will be a big deal this once. Just make sure there is not too much excess on the wheel that they can lick off.
Next time, try using a cooking oil, like olive or vegetable oil. You can also use a little butter or animal fat.

A light vegtable oil should be used, its cheap, effective, and harlmess to the animal. Once you wash the wheel it will come off, but then just put another small amount on and the wheel will stop squeaking for another short time

We use cooking spray to keep our mouse wheel from squeaking.
