AH-HA....another Merlot fan.
For me a crisp cold Blackberry Merlot...just for kicking back and for the pure enjoyment of the fantastic fruity taste.
A white Zinfandel goes good with the grilled shrimp.
For the heck-of-it, I just finished a cold Shiner Bock....no reason, no occasion, it just sounded good. Ever get like that?
Cheers!

Prosecco is my best of the best and I drink it in nearly all dinner occasions I serve. I also like Italian Tocai. I've recently bumbed into a Sicilian red called Nero di Avola and can tell everyone here that it is a kick ars red wine.

Australian or South African Shiraz would be my first choice for most dishes. If that's not available I'd check out the Cabernet Sauvignon from those regions.
Otherwise a good New Zealand Pinot Noir goes with just about anything.

Merlot and shiraz have become popular, but I prefer pinot noir.
It has a lot of subtle notes in the flavor, and it is so good!
