If you're not accustomed to tea, you will probably want to add some sugar. Some people also add milk to hot tea; that's an individual preference, though. After a while, you may find that you prefer milk and sugar, sugar only, or nothing added at all.

Being a tea drinker myself, and a purist.... I never add artificial sweetners... honey to sweeten is best. With early grey, lemon and sometimes milk. Plantation Mint is popular by Bigelow, and its good iced or good hot. Also good for the throat and stomach aches. Constant Comment is excellent, a good afternoon or dinner tea, it has a nice orange and spice aroma. Green Tea is most popular, due to the antioxidant properties green tea. Green Tea is basically picked prematurely and it is a mild tea. Often it is an acquired taste. English teatime, I think is more herbal, may have chamomile....which is excellent for bedtime, has a calming and sedative effect on the nervous system. I like to experiment with my teas. The longer you step the tea the richer the flavor, but again, its just personal preference. Loose tea is often abound. Chinese oolong tea can be found in many asian markets. Find a good tea ball and brew a pot with lemon and honey. Lipton has a new tea bag that it pyramid shaped and they have some excellent varieties. Your local grocery store probably has a variety of teas that can be enjoyed both hot or cold. If you are sensitive to caffeine, try the herbal ones which comes in many flavors.

Green Tea: don't add anything, not even sugar, it usually spoils the flavor.

Black Tea: you may add a little milk, sugar, honey, or drink it by itself. It has stronger flavor than green tea which is why people put milk in it sometimes. Just make sure its milk and not half and half or anything like that.

As for "mint" and other flavored tea, its not that popular because they kind of taste bad and dont taste like tea.

Also there are some foods that are good with tea.

If you are eating something greasy but not very salty black tea (english teatime) is good with it.

If you are eating some asian salty foods (whether greasy or not) green tea without any sugar is good.

The simplest answer is try it without sugar and see if you like it. If not, add just a small amount-like 1/2 tsp.- at a time until it tastes good to you. Do this with each new type, because each will be different and every different tea drinker likes something different as well. I can't tell you a "best"- I like all of those equally well.
I hope you enjoy it-tea is very tasty and good for you.

It will totally depend on your preferences!

With most herbal teas I like to add honey (to taste), same with green tea, although I find it bitter than most.

Constant Comment, I've had and found that I liked to add sugar, not honey, and a bit of milk.

Earl Grey, I do not care for, but I believe that one has been popular to add both milk and sugar to it.

The addition of milk into any black teas is to bring out the complexities of the tea. I know it sounds a bit odd to add milk to tea, but it really does bring another flavor out.

The addition of sugar or honey is to merely sweeten it to your palette. Some people never add anything to their tea and enjoy it as plain as can be. Some also like a bit of fresh lemon in it, but it's totally up to you.

I never add sugar to green tea, I use honey. Sugar & milk can be added to black tea and flavoured black tea (such as Earl Grey)
Sometimes I add cocoa powder to Earl Gray.

Make it and taste it, then you can add sugar or cream or both if you wish. Lemon too. What ever tastes good to you.
