In our house we weren't allowed to discuss it, or laugh when someone farted.

No, my childhood as a mormon, with super strict mormon parents was a living hell. I love not being mormon.

I'm not even talking about farting in public. We weren't allowed to in our house either.

SirNetwork: You're getting the tip of the iceburg picture of my anger for the mormon church. It's much deeper than you can ever imagine.

Are you kidding my dads favorite game was "pull my finger" -- he must have played it 10 times a day.
If I had to repent every time I farted I'd be in constant prayer mode.
.. and please forgive me for farting, and again sorry about that one, and that one, oooo and sorry for that loud one...
BTW -- no offense but...
Your parents are the strangest Mormon family I have ever heard about. Your dad sounds like an uptight jerk from all the things you have written, and I assume that your mom is a mouse that never speaks up

No farting is not a sin.
It is sad you had a sad or bad experience as a child with Too strict of Mormons parents. It is time to grow up and get over it. Your parents were not typical of Mormons in general or of the Mormon religion. It is sad that you have to live in anger because of your past. Get a life and move on.

It is not a sin to fart in any religion, Al.
However, many western cultures tend to view farts as impolite and rude, which is what leads to fart jokes being funny in the first place.
I'm sorry that your household was repressive about bodily functions. Between this and understanding your YA name, I'm getting a better picture of why this hate is built up inside of you.

Wow! You grew up in such an up tight family. Super strict rules all the time, huh? Now I know why you're so anti-mormon.That probably would have turned me off to the whole Mormon way of life, too.
I guess I've been lucky to have a pretty laid back clan - even my in-laws. We don't stress about much, but we do respect those things that are sacred.

Oh, Al, I love you, you are such a charmer! And in our house, everyone laughs, when someone farts! It's hysterically funny!
It sounds like you didn't have fun growing up! I'm sorry for that! Every child deserves to have a fun childhood!
thanks for the funny question!

Dude, why are you so freaking ignorant? That's seriously wrong man. Please grow up and get a life! There are SOO many better things to do then bash a religion, go take a walk or something man do something useful.
Secondly, it's not magic underwear alright man? It's called Garments and you recieve them through sacred temple ordinances. They're not magic, they're sacred. Let me give you an example man, there was one guy who was wearing his garments and he got burned somehow (dont know how??) but when he went to the hospital the doctor saw that he had burns everywhere except where his garments were. Not magic, but Gods protection. Steve Young (a famous mormon) never wore his sacred garments during game because it was his belief (and mine too) that they shouldn't be used during a sport of earthly things. Jerry Rice even asked him wwhere he could get underwewar like that (he put them on after a game), really man, they're sacred, don't be ignorant.

No but some Mormons are really uptight, just like some Catholics are and some Muslims.
It has nothing to do with the religion, it has to do with the family

It's definately not a sin, but a lot of parents think it's disgusting. There are the select few parents though (like mine) who know it's just natural and laugh every now and then. That's all.

I take it you must have been raised Mormon. Actually it has nothing to do with religion and every thing to do with etiquette. You know those things some of us call Good Manners!!

Is there an 11th commandment somewhere we're not aware of??
I think most Mormon's are very polite though.
