I said not to use Jesus in your answer as this statement nor is it of hebrew origins and was WRITTEN CENTURIES before Jesus said it while on earth.

John 14:2

It originated from God, the Father, who said it first.
Jesus said so.....

John 12
49 For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.
50 And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.

John 14
2 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

UPDATE:
Thanks for the information on your source. Since I believe God revealed many things to his children from the foundation fo the world, it is not suprising to find similar truths among the ancient egyptians. To say that Christ's saying 'originated' from this written text though, is quite a scholarly stretch since there is no evidence to link the two sayings and while there are a few words that are similar, there are also unique characteristics and context for each.

From the Paprys of Nebseni, Sheet 3
Let not the Mesqet make an end of me, let not the Fiend (Sebau) gain the mastery over me, let me not be driven away from the doors of the Other World, let not you doors be shut in my face, for my cakes are in the city of Pe, and my ale is in the city of Tep. And there, in the celestial mansions of heaven which my divine father Tem hath stablished, let my hands lay hold upon the wheat and the barley, which shall be given unto me therein in abundant measure, and may the son of my own body make ready for me my food therein.

You can look it up in an encyclopedia and it will point you to the bible.

How about a Book of Mormon reference? It's not exactly the same, but was supposedly written before the time of Christ:

Ether 12: 32 - And I also remember that thou hast said that thou hast prepared a house for man, yea, even among the mansions of thy Father, in which man might have a more excellent hope; wherefore man must hope, or he cannot receive an inheritance in the place which thou hast prepared.

it was said by Jesus. John chapter 14 verse 2. The translation of "mansions" is "places of rest".

if you already know it was written before Jesus' time, that must mean you already know where it originated. In that case, why don't you just tell us? I'd sure like to know, because I was quite certain it started with Jesus. Unless you mean the OT, in that case, that's cool also.

"Although it has come to mean a large, sometimes pretentious home, the English word mansion was derived from a Latin word, mansum, that simply means to dwell."
With this being said, this scripture is simply saying that in heaven theres alot of places to live...room for as many as would like to come, basically.
