I think ice cream is just a "comfort food" for a lot of people. Others look at chips in a similar way. I'm definitely one that would more likely eat ice cream (or at least a vegan version) if I'm having a really rough day/week. Maybe it's my way of treating myself to something I really enjoy without worrying about consequence. Like, everything else in my life has gone to crap, but I'm going to enjoy this pint of ice cream if it's the last thing I do!
Does that make any sense?

Ice cream is one of a number of "comfort foods" most of which have high calories, which are connected to pleasant times by most people. Others include cake, Twinkies, cookies, chips, dip, french fries, mashed potatoes with gravy, steak. The comfort comes from focusing on the taste and eating sensations and ignoring the outside world. Of course, a huge number of calories can be taken in during the time from starting eating to feeling "full". One of the major success points of losing weight is spotting when a food desire is just for comfort and diverting desire to something less harmful.

Lol. Ok when people are feeling down in the dumpster, people eat ice cream, or known as "comfort food." People like to eat little sweets such as chocolate, ice cream, cake. It makes them feel good, so when people are down they eat ice cream to help calm themselves.

Foods with fat and sugar or fat and salt—are all calorie-dense. When faced with big doses of calories, the brain releases endorphins—chemicals that reduce the sensation of pain and may help ease depression and anxiety. So when people are sad or depressed, they crave high calorie foods, such as ice cream, chocolate, and/or salty foods because it makes them feel better.

Ice cream is considered a sweet - people eat it because they enjoy it.
It's like a little boy hurting his knee. He runs to his mother for comfort.
People that enjoy ice cream run to ice cream for comfort.
There's also chemical reasoning behind it - when you do something you enjoy, your body released endorphins into your system. Ice cream is the same for these people.

ice cream is a comfort food, it makes you feel good and you dont have to put any effort into eating it, there isnt any chewing involved, you can just enjoy it. ppl would drink something but for some reason eating just makes ppl feel better and what is better than eating something that requires no effort. mashed potatoes is also a comfort food.

I do! It's because of two reasons- one, because it does not judge or complain- it's food! And two, because there are certain "feel- good" receptors in a person's brain that are stimulated when you eat and make a person feel good, so the taste of the food does not always have to do with why a person likes the food. Their body is just responding to the food or stimulant.

evolution has sustained human life by making the human crave fatty foods, because those foods are rich in life-sustaining calories. the body does this by releasing endorphines when consumed, associated pleasure with these foods making the body crave it. when your are sad or guilty, you are far from happy and will therefore have an addition craving to seek out fatty foods and thereby more content feelings
