Check out the Santa Monica Mountains National Recertational Area or Grifith Park. Both places offer great views of Southern California.

There are many nice hillside locations in South California, and I would suggest the following:

Laguna Beach, Lake Elsinore area, City of Corona, Rosetta Canyon, Tuscany Hills.

Griffith Observatory. It is amazing there.
