I know powder room is a very old term but that is what my papaw calls it so.... Anyways right now my bathroom and powder room are bright yellow the bathroom is done in a rubber ducky theme. The floor is white lanolium with like tan lines breaking it into a tile look. The powder room like i said is also bright yellow there is a walk in closet in there and a pine -medium brown- wood dresser. Also the ceilings are only about 6 feet 2 in. because this is in a basement of an old house if that matters...I have no idea what color to paint them. I would love to keep a relaxed maybe make you feel like you are sitting by the ocean but also neutral color feel. I have a shower curtain that is light bluish turquise with tan and yellow all stripes. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

You need something bright, given the low ceiling. I like a very light or pale green color....Almost looks tropical. It would brighten it up for sure,.

I went to Marshalls years ago and found some12x12 tiles of salt water fish. They are excellent. I also found a frog later but it met its demise before it got hung and then a neat turtle. They are color ful and peaceful because they are really nice and while they are bright it goes with a water theme and I have yet to paint around them--but have good intentions with swirling colors of blue and beach sand that matches the background of these tiles. I have bought some really dark cedar planks to put behind the sink and seal-the pier approach. And then some fancy towels to hang and impress visitors with a lighthouse motif. And last I found a magazine rack in a mottled light green to put across from the toilet and then I staggered little shelves going up the wall-I'm so short on space. I finally have all the pieces now all I need is the time to put it together. It sounds strange but it should work out and be really me. My other suggestion for small rooms is mirrors. Mirrors are so good in the bathroom because there is nothing worse than looking at your body naked but nothing better swearing you will not eat that day plus you can check out your clothes and be sure they are attractive from all angles. I also recommend the medicine cabinet that has the three mirrored doors and you can angle them so that you can see the back of your head without holding a mirror. That really comes in handy. Find one thing that you like-that will last for awhile, and pick your colors from that and make it you. Short rooms need lighting to set it off but beware of strip lighting because in the summer you will fry yourself and find yourself unscrewing bulbs and absolutely do not use halogen-they are so hot. Go thru the mags at the grocery store while you stand in line, go to Home Depot etc and pick up their color phamplets and something will finally strike you as perfect. There are also so many finishes and textures to add to paint. I like peacefully decorated things so I don't have to wake up too abruptly.

Anything that isn't a Duck, paint sky blue. Then, if you feel a little artistic, put flat white circles in various spots. Closer together at the bottom of the walls, farther apart towards the cieling. Then re-tile or vinyl the floor white. Keep going with the Ducky Theme. Unless, you want to go the "WHORISH CASINO" look and checker board everything RED/BLACK, your call. TARGET has a wide selection of Ducky bathroom accents.

Stick with the bluish theme. There are so many pretty and calming light blues that you could use. Accents could be with seashells, sunbursts, etc.

Or.....You could pick up the tan in your shower curtain and use a sand color for your walls.

Since it is a basement "powder room" then you are absolutely correct with keeping it a light color.

Visit your paint store and get some sample chips. Bring them home and try to visualize what it would look like.

The possibilities are endless !!!
Have fun !!

YOU COULD DO THE RAG OFF EFFECT WITH LIGHT BLUES THAT WOULD BE PRETTY.
